Vox pop analysis

The first question asked was 'What is your favourite music video?' When answering this question most of the people we asked said pop videos. Due to our target audience being the teenagers and most of the people asked were teenagers this was not surprising as conventionally teenagers are more likely to listen to and watch more mainstream pop videos. The demographic of a target audience member for our music video would be a unconventional teenager who does not follow what society expects them to like and do. The people we interviewed were mainly teenagers however most of them were wearing the sort of clothing which was expected of them. Although due to filming in a school all students are expected to wear certain clothes which society see as 'smart' and so the students can not express their unconventional style.

The second question asked was 'Why?'. This question refered to the answers from the first question, meaning the answers were varied and allowed us to get many ideas of what we could include in our music video. Mr. Swinn said he 'couldn't stand a music video without band shots.' This helped us to decide as a group that a joint narrative and performance video would be a better idea than just focusing mainly on the narrative. Also Luke Tierney said he liked the music video he chose because 'there's a fit girl in it'. This shows that Laura Mulvey's theory 'The Male Gaze' which is the ideology that 'men see women actors and look ‘at’ her but when they see the male actor they see ‘with’ him.' Women are therefore seen as sexual objects by the men who watch the music videos. We will adhere to Laura Mulvey's theory by using a female protaganist.

The final question asked was 'Where do you watch them' which would help us to decide where to advertise and what platforms it would benefit from being on. Most of the people we asked said they veiwed music videos on YouTube, we will make our music video on this platform. Also Charlie said she watched music videos on music channels, again we will make our music video avalible for release on MTV and other music channels
