Inspiration

Band/Track                                   What is inspirational?

Fat boy slim                       Handheld camera, low budget, it doesn't follow
'Praise you'                        some of the conventions, it parodies pop videos

Peter Gabriel                     Stop motion - this was innovative for it's time.
'Sledge Hammer'              Surrealism - art, movement, performance with
                                          narrative

Nirvana                              Parody of conventions, pastiche of a TV
'In bloom'                          performance, playing about with stereotypes-
                                          clean cut/ rock image

REM                                 Subverts conventions. Captions show problems
'Everybody hurts'             the viewer could emphasise with - drop into
peoples lives - drop into the images lives -
                                         emotional - montage and disconnected
meanings. Post-modern. The band are dressed in
suits - conventional of a funeral scene, links to
                                         the lyrics 'she's gone'.

Johnny Cash                    Simple but effective montage, no narrative,
'Gods gonna cut              minimal performance, connected images and
you down'                        jump cuts. Black and white wash - atmospheric.
Illuminati - Jay Z has his hand in a triangular
                                         shape.

Weezer                             Pastiche of school, parodying media and viral
'Pork and beans'              videos. Performance with inspirational
                                         intertextuality.

Aha                                  Animation and footage are mixed. Inspiration from
'Take on me'                    old cartoons e.g. Tin Tin.

Bjork                                 Inspiration from fairytales - Goldilocks - Wooden
'Human behaviour'           spoon. Alice in Wonderland - falling down a hole.
Dream and nightmares. Gulliver's travels - pinned
                                         to the ground.

Blur                                  Narrative - strong with disjuncture. Stereotypical
'Coffee and tea'               performance at the end.
